Doula Myths
Dispelled
Midwives and doulas are not the same!
Midwives, like OBs, deliver babies. Doulas offer moms and partners physical, emotional, and mental support beginning in pregnancy through early postpartum. A doula is also the only person on your care team that offers continuous support from the onset of labor through early postpartum.
A doula will not replace your partner.
A doula is as much a guide to the partner as to the birthing person, offering suggestions on how to engage with you in ways that make you feel comfortable, supported, and empowered.
Doulas are not exclusive to unmedicated home births.
This is an unfortunate misconception. Statistically, doulas improve birth outcomes - and especially birth satisfaction - across all types of birth. We are equipped to offer comfort measures, advocacy, and support no matter how you deliver your baby.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a doula worth the expense?
The truth is - it depends. I suggest you schedule a discovery call with me if you are on the fence or trying to figure out where your money will be best spent.
There is absolutely zero obligation or expectation for you to work with me. I am happy to talk through your unique situation because I truly want you to find the most beneficial support for your birth and postpartum experience.
Do I really need a
doula?
No, you are absolutely capable of birthing alone. But just because you can doesn’t mean you have to.
Doulas lower rates of medical interventions by 50%, lower incidence of cesarean by 39%, and improve overall birth satisfaction by 30%. Doulas are also the only continuous presence throughout your labor, there to make you feel supported, cared for, and offering strength when you are depleted.
Am I too late to hire
a doula?
If the baby hasn’t arrived, it isn’t too late to engage with a birth doula.
I am confident I can offer effective labor support if we connect and the relationship feels natural.
If I am fully booked, I would be happy to put you in touch with other doula resources to find the right fit for you.
Hi! I’m Libby,
mom of two and birth doula. I spent a decade working in healthcare operations, first at a humanitarian aid nonprofit before transitioning to health tech after business school. Neither industry felt totally right for me.
Then I had my first baby and lost my dad. Those transformative events inspired me to live my life with purpose and intention.
I see birth as an opportunity and a lesson in releasing control, accepting discomfort, and learning love. It’s a microcosm of life and a privilege for me to bring into my everyday.
As your doula, I won’t make false promises. With or without a doula, birth can be unpredictable. What I will promise is that the more you know about pregnancy, birth and postpartum, the more confident you will feel in your decision-making and the greater peace you will find knowing your birth may not follow your perfect plan. As your advocate, guide, and encouraging presence, my goal is to create a safe space for you to experience your beautiful birth story.
When I’m not at a birth or studying the latest in birth, I am cooking for my family (my love language), getting outside with my kids (where everyone is their most sane self), and attempting to grow a vegetable garden (send help).
I hope you’ll get in touch!
